People will perish, but books are immortal. (Pompeii)

About This Quote

It is a sad fact that many books in our world are no longer available to us. This quote from the doomed city of Pompeii reminds us that even though we can never read all of the books in existence, they will always be there for us, if we ever need them. It is said that when Pompeii was destroyed, some 15,000 books were lost forever. But even if the last copy of every book ever written had been destroyed by Vesuvius or had been lost in some other disaster, total destruction would not have left the world devoid of literature.
